As both a San Francisco attorney and Los Angeles attorney,

Man From Reno won the
Best Picture Award - Narrative at the 2014 Los Angeles Film Festival and was a nominee at the Independent Spirit Awards for the coveted John Cassavetes Award, among other awards and nominations. The story begins with Paul Del Moral, the sheriff of a small town not far from San Francisco. One foggy night while out on patrol, he discovers an abandoned car, and after reporting it drives away, and is shocked by a man rebounding off his windshield.
He takes the unconscious Japanese man to the hospital, who disappears before an investigation can begin. In the next scene, Japanese mystery writer Aki Akahori suddenly takes a trip to San Francisco, escaping the press tour of her newest book in the Inspector Takabe series, which has attained worldwide fame. She has an affair with a Japanese man in San Francisco, who suddenly disappears. The story runs on a dual track of Del Moral and Akahori until the two meet, and then the plot really thickens.
